Happy New Year! We are continuing to create Best Practice Guides to various archaeological techniques. To join our existing guide on the practice of metal detecting, we've now uploaded a guide to Metal Detecting Policy, by Helen Fowler, who is the Finds Liason Officer of the Portable Antiquities Scheme for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. It can be downloaded here.

As a Happy Christmas from the Jigsaw team, welcome to our two new Jigsaw affiliated groups:

CamDig in North Cambridge, and...

West Wickham and District Local History Club

We've been working with CamDig for almost a year now, since holding a recruitment drive for a north Cambridge group in Arbury Community Centre last January, and it's grown from there!

West Wickham are much newer to us, and we very much look forward to helping them in their research and activities.

We now have 22 affiliated groups in our Jigsaw network: how exciting! Best wishes and Happy Christmas to you all, including from Warboys Archaeology Project (below!).

Warboys Archaeology Project are backfilling one of their sites. Their director writes: "It was hard, heavy work but we only ever add a small amount of material to allow for compacting.  We have tried many methods to compact the backfill and gradually found that a synchronized approach worked best.  We have developed this fundamentally unique approach and thought I'd share the image so that you have it for future reference."

Enjoy!

IMG 0205The Downloads section has been revamped, and two brand new guides have been uploaded from the training courses in 2013: An Introduction to Metal Detecting and Archaeological Landscape Survey: Principles for Surveying Earthworks. Do check out the guides, and all the other free material available for download.

Over the winter months we will be writing up guides from other Jigsaw training courses in conjunction with our trainers, so do watch this space!

In a quick response to advertising free spaces on our upcoming courses, I'm afraid QGIS is now fully-booked and has 4 people on the waiting list! Still a few spaces left on Writing Project Reports, so do book for that.
