Last call for the Jigsaw Training Dig! The dates are Saturday 4th - Friday 17th July at a Medieval site in Covington, near Kimbolton. It's going to be epic! We have good numbers signed up, but can always fit in a few more - so if you can come for a couple of days or more, we'd love to have you! We're surprisingly low on numbers over both dig weekends (4-5th and 11-12th) and Fri 17th, so if you work, we hope this means you could attend. More information and the booking form can be found here: http://www.jigsawcambs.org/training/dig-2015
Deadline for bookings is next FRIDAY 26TH JUNE - a full week before the training dig. We can't guarantee places to people after this date, unless you've mentioned special circumstances to us before. Priority bookings go to Jigsaw Cambridgeshire members, then people within Cambridgeshire, but we're now inviting bookings from out of county.
We'd also love to see you at the Festival of Cambridgeshire Archaeology on Saturday 18th July, 12-3pm in Covington. We'll have displays of groups' work, and a chance to look round the dig site.

We're having a steady stream of bookings for our dig in Covington, near Kimbolton from Sat 4th - Sat 18th July. 37 people have booked so far! However, we still have spaces left, so if you'd like to take part, do send your booking form in a.s.a.p. You'll learn how to excavate, record, photograph and survey archaeological features, as well as meet people from across the Jigsaw Community. We're currently a bit short of old-hands to take part in our 'not just for rookies' package: giving fieldschool talks, supervising areas of the excavation and finds processing, shadowing professional archaeologists, and learning how to set up and machine a site. So we'd welcome people of all levels of experience!
At the end of the dig, on Saturday 18th July from 12-3pm in Covington, we'll be holding a grandly-titled 'Festival of Cambridgeshire Archaeology'! This will be similar to our Jigsaw Groups' Summer Conference last year in that we'd like to invite all our affiliated groups to bring displays of their work, but we'll also be giving tours of the excavation and opening it to the public as part of the CBA's Festival of Archaeology. There will also be refreshments of some sort - tbc! Group leaders: please be thinking whether you could bring a display. Group members: please ask your leaders whether you could bring a display on their behalf!

Lots coming up as we enter spring and summer! Next Saturday 25th April we have our Human Bone courses in Swavesey - still some spaces in the morning and afternoon (repeat). This is a great course by a world-class teacher - do make the most of it! You'll get to handle and identify human bones for yourself. Book here.
Flint Knapping Demo and Workshop on Saturday 30th May at Ramsey Heights Countryside Classroom: our morning course is FULLY BOOKED, but we still have some spaces in the afternoon. You'll get to see a very good flint knapper at work, and have a go yourself. If you've ever tried to identify flint and not really understood what we mean by a 'bulb of percussion' or the difference between a blade and a flake, this is the course for you. Book here.
Roman Pottery-making Demonstration courses on 6th June at Ramsey Heights Countryside Classroom. Participants will have the chance to have some hands-on experience of dipping vessels into slip and then trail Nene Valley barbotine decoration on top. One of the best ways of learning to identify pottery is understanding the processes that went into making it. Jon will be firing the pots made at this course in the kiln during our training dig on 14th-15 July - and you can collect your pot afterwards! Book here.
